Eine große Kugel inmitten einer Bibliothek, weiße, wellenförmige Regale mit unzähligen Büchern - das klingt nach einem fantastischen Ort zum Lesen. Unser Fin fühlt sich hier zunächst pudelwohl, doch in der futuristisch anmutenden Tianjin Binhai Bibliothek in China ist nicht alles so, wie es scheint. Bei genauerem Hinsehen erkennt man nämlich, dass hinter den Regalen eine Fototapete mit Buchrücken klebt. Echte Bücher gibt es in der zentralen Halle kaum. Diese befinden sich in anderen Räumen. Bei der Eröffnung 2017 gab es rund 200.000, der Bestand soll aber bis auf 1,2 Millionen anwachsen. Ein architektonisches Meisterwerk bleibt die Bibliothek trotzdem. Der Spitzname ist übrigens "The eye", weil die gigantische Kugel in der Mitte an eine Pupille erinnern soll.

A large sphere in the middle of a library, white, undulating shelves with countless books - it sounds like a fantastic place to read. First Fin feels really comfortable here, but in the futuristic-looking Tianjin Binhai Library in China, not everything is as it seems. On closer inspection, you can see that there is photo wallpaper with book spines behind the shelves. There are hardly any real books in the central hall. These are located in other rooms. There were around 200,000 when it opened in 2017, but the collection is set to grow to 1.2 million. Nevertheless, the library remains an architectural masterpiece. It is nicknamed "The eye" because the gigantic sphere in the middle is supposed to resemble a pupil.
