An der Südfassade zieren fünf doppelflügelige Bronzetüren die Eingänge, geschaffen von Gerd Jaeger. Sie zeigen Dresdens Geschichte von der ersten urkundlichen Erwähnung als Fischerdorf um 1206 bis zur sozialistischen Großstadt am Ende der 1960er. Auch Ereignisse wie der Dreißigjährige Krieg, die Barockepoche, der Handwerkeraufstand von 1794, die Befreiungskriege oder die Uraufführung des Rosenkavaliers sind auf den zehn Reliefs dargestellt. Allerdings kann der aufmerksame Betrachter feststellen, dass die Chronologie nicht ganz stimmt: Die DDR-Oberen wollten unbedingt, dass die Errungenschaften des Sozialismus in die Mitte kommen. Und genau dieser mittleren Tür widmet sich diese Labstation.

Five double-leaf bronze doors, created by Gerd Jaeger, adorn the entrances on the south façade. They show Dresden's history from the first documented mention as a fishing village at 1206 to the socialist metropolis at the end of the 1960s. Events such as the Thirty Years' War, the Baroque era, the craftsmen's revolt of 1794, the Wars of Liberation and the premiere of 'Der Rosenkavalier' are also depicted on the ten reliefs. However, the attentive observer will notice that the chronology is not quite right: The GDR government wanted the achievements of socialism to come to the center. And it is precisely this middle door that this lab station is dedicated to.

Kunst, Wissen, ein Ort der Begegnung, Musik, Wissenschaft – all das vereint der Kulturpalast mitten im Herzen der Stadt. Das eher schmucklose Gebäude im typisch modernistischen DDR-Baustil des „Neuen Dresdens“ nach Entwürfen des Architekten Wolfgang Hänsch wurde 1969 eingeweiht und für Konzerte, Veranstaltungen und Kongresse genutzt. Nach umfangreichen Umbauarbeiten wurde das Haus am 28.April 2017 wiedereröffnet und ist heute die Heimat der städtischen Zentralbibliothek, der Dresdner Philharmonie, des Kabaretts „Die Herkuleskeule“ und zahlreichen weiteren Kunst-, Kultur- und Wissenschaftseinrichtungen.

Dieser Lab lädt euch ein, das Gebäude, seine Kulturstätten und Kunstwerke kennenzulernen. Er wurde anlässlich des Mega-Events „Lesen – Leihen – Loggen“ im August 2024 angelegt.

Arts, knowledge, a place of encounter, music, science - the Kulturpalast combines all of these in the heart of the city. The rather unadorned building in the typical modernist GDR style of the “New Dresden”, designed by architect Wolfgang Hänsch, was inaugurated in 1969 and used for concerts, events and congresses. After extensive renovation work, the building was reopened on April 28, 2017 and is now home to the city's central library, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the cabaret “Die Herkuleskeule” and numerous other art, cultural and scientific institutions.

This lab invites you to get to know the building, its cultural sites and pieces of art. It was created on the occasion of the mega event “Lesen – Leihen – Loggen“ in August 2024.
